BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
"Cantigas de Santa María" by Alfono X "El sabio", Florence manuscript.
Copy nº 676/1000.
Bound in carved leather, the spine with ribs and gilt cartouches.
Accompanied by an explanatory book published in 1991.
Measurements: 46 x 33 x 4 cm.
This is the facsimile edition of the codex "rico" escurialense of the Cantigas de Santa María de Alfonso X el Sabio, from the end of the 13th century, plus a complementary volume with the transcription of the text and the music of the cantigas it contains, as well as the explanation and historical-critical studies written by Ana Domínguez Rodríguez and Agustín Santiago Luque.
During the 13th century Marian devotion was at its peak, so much so that Alfonso X created the chivalric Order of Saint Mary of Spain, to which he dedicated a cantiga.
This copy contains one of the most important collections of monophonic song in medieval-western literature, with a troubadour and paraliturgical profile, with a set of 417 compositions in honor of the Virgin Mary. In them, we find cantigas in which the miracles happened with the participation of the Virgin are narrated.
This work has had a great transcendence from the pictorial, musical and literary point of view.
