BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Mid-twentieth century brooch in 18k yellow gold. Signed Maison Cartier. "Moretto" design adorned with red coral, diamonds, rose-cut diamonds, pearls and enamel.
Weight: 9.30 g
Measurements: 3,3 x 2 cm.

Its origin comes from Italy when the jeweler Guiolio Nardi, designed it for his marriage proposal to give his future wife a precious jewel inspired by William Shakespeare's Otello. Such was its success that for years, in Italy it became the best gift for the bride in this celebration, due to its high cost. Therefore, the Venetian Moretto is a symbol of ostentation and wealth.
