DESCRIPTION

The name "Vuillaume à Paris" is associated with Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, a famous French luthier of the 19th century. Although Vuillaume is best known for his violins, he also produced bows of great quality, generally made by renowned archers who worked under his direction, such as François Xavier Tourte or Dominique Peccatte. Bows marked Vuillaume à Paris are often highly valued by collectors and musicians due to their excellent design and materials. It should also be noted that later bows sometimes replicated this stamp as a tribute or to market pieces in his style.

Violin bows are traditionally made of pernambuco (or paubrasil) wood, a material recognized for its combination of hardness, elasticity and lightness, which are essential qualities for a bow that needs flexibility and resistance. This wood comes from the Paubrasilia echinata tree, native to Brazil, and has been the preferred choice since the 18th century because of its ability to transmit vibrations and respond precisely to the violinist's movements.
