BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

French violin bow stamped Louis Bazin.
Pernambuco wood with alpaca screws with ebony nut.
Provenance: Private collection.
Good condition, but Exhibits wear consistent with age and use.
Weight: 56 g.
Measurements: 74 cm.

French violin bow from the workshop of Charles Louis Bazin (1881-1953). This is a very beautiful piece made around 1940. It honors its origins in the famous Mirecourt family workshop.

It has a well curved shaft with natural aging. The heel is decorated with a mother-of-pearl or floral inlay design, common on fine period bows from French or German workshops.

Violin bows are traditionally made from pernambuco (or pau-brasil) wood, a material recognized for its combination of hardness, elasticity and lightness, which are essential qualities for a bow that needs flexibility and strength. This wood comes from the Paubrasiliaechinata tree, native to Brazil, and has been the preferred choice since the 18th century because of its ability to transmit vibrations and respond precisely to the violinist's movements.
