Several inscriptions can be seen on the metal part of the peg or pegbox ("Érard / Facteur de Pianos et Harpes du Roi & des Princesses / 13-21 Rue du Mail. Paris.
The house of Érard was founded thanks to Sebastien Érard (Strasbourg, 1752 - Paris, 1831), who moved to Paris in 1768, but later, due to the political situation, he moved to London, where he trained at Broadwood. In 1796 he decided to return to Paris where he opened a workshop in which he applied all his knowledge. Érard is best known for the introduction of the double escapement on pianos, patented in 1821, as well as for his work as a harp maker.
