Russian icon of the XIX century.
"Scenes from the life of Christ".
Painting on wood.
It needs restoration. It presents cracks in the wood and lack of polychrome.
Measurements: 36 x 31 x 4 cm.

Russian icon that shelters diverse scenes of the life of Christ, framed by figures of saints and archangels: the visit to the temple, the transit of Santa Ana, the meeting of Jesus with the fishermen to whom he invites to "be fishermen of men"... The juxtaposition of different biblical episodes nourishes the composition with iconographic richness. In spite of the thematic variety, everything is subsumed under a symmetrical order, around the vertical axis traced by Father and Son housed in mandorlae. Legends in Cyrillic identify the characters. The gilding, the intense chromaticism and the stylized drawing that outlines each figure, as well as the details of brocade and other details are elements that remain faithful to the tradition of Orthodox icons.
