Born in Madrid in 1959, but with a soul of Slavic essence, Sonja discovered photography and painting simultaneously as a child, influenced by the cultural heritage of a painter mother and a father fond of photography. Self-taught and with an insatiable curiosity to explore new resources, she has complemented her training in various schools of professional and auteur photography, which has allowed her to experiment with different registers and expand her visual language. Her photographic work is built from an imaginary rich in images, drawings, watercolors and collages, reinventing subjects and objects. The camera is for her an essential tool, a creative extension with which she manages to endow her images with plasticity. In 2019 she starts La Bolsa Mágica, a non-portrait project that works as a psychological game about false identity and remains in constant evolution. In 2020, he self-publishes a limited edition of the book-catalog of this collection, and in 2022 he exhibits the project individually at Makina gallery, in Croatia, under the curatorship of photographer Hassan Abdelghani. During 2023 he participates in three group exhibitions: in Barcelona, with his series Cuerpos y Sombras, at Hartexpo and the Art Nou Millenni gallery, and in Madrid, at the studio of painter Roberto González Fernández. In 2024 he has a solo exhibition at the gallery of the Real Sociedad Fotográfica de Madrid as part of its 125th anniversary program. That same year, he presents his first biographical book, No Me Olvidas, in Madrid and Croatia, a work in which he explores the memory hidden in family albums, rescuing them from oblivion. He closes the year with an exhibition of his series Cuerpos y Sombras (Bodies and Shadows) at the Traveling-bar in Lavapiés.
