Aziz and Cucher are American artists based in Brooklyn, working together as the duo Aziz + Cucher. Their interdisciplinary practice includes digital photography and animation, video, textiles, screen printing and sculpture. They emerged in the early 1990s and are considered pioneers of post-photography and the then nascent use of digital imaging in the fine arts. The duo's early photographs and sculptures focused on socio-anthropological themes, such as dehumanization, the breakdown of communication, and notions of utopia or dystopia in relation to the advancement of technology. In later installations and exhibitions, they have taken a more political approach, examining issues such as war, inequality and the effects of globalization.
Aziz + Cucher have exhibited at venues such as the New Museum, the Venice Biennale, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), MASS MoCA and the International Center of Photography. His artworks are part of the public collections of LACMA, SFMOMA, the Fonds national d'art contemporain (Paris), the Galería de Arte Nacional (Caracas), and the Museo de Fotografía Contemporánea, among others.
