BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

LILIANA PORTER (Buenos Aires, 1941).
"Forty years IV, hand, over triangle, one hand left", 1973.
Installation with chromogenic printing and graphite.
Attached certificate issued by Espacio Mínimo Gallery.
*The third photograph is an example of the piece once it has been intervened by the viewer.
Measurements: 48,30 x 58,40 cm (photograph).
According to mounting instructions provided by the artist: This work must be framed with or without white passe-partout. The graphite pencil line in each direction should extend over the passe-partout and beyond the frame to form a triangle drawn on the wall approximately 40" on each side.
For this reason the photograph is completed when the buyer draws the triangle becoming a work that transcends the mere photograph and becomes an installation, where the artist interpellates the viewer becoming the creator of the piece itself.
A transcendental moment in Liliana Porter's life was her arrival in New York, where she was enraptured by the artistic experiences of pop art, minimalism and conceptualism. Similarly, the feminist movement, the anti-racist struggles, the demonstrations against the Vietnam War or the heyday of artists such as Bob Dylan made an impact on her, giving her enormous experiences to reflect on her work and the development of technique. Porter cites as influences in her work Luis Felipe Noe, Giorgio Morandi, Roy Lichtenstein, the Arte Povera group and the Guerrilla Girls, among others.
A multidisciplinary artist, Liliana Porter trained at the Manuel Belgrano National School in Buenos Aires and at the Prilidiano Pueyrredón National School of Fine Arts in the same city. She also attended the engraving workshop at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de la Nación Ernesto de la Cárcova, directed at that time by the engraver Fernando López Anaya. From 1958 to 1961 he lived in Mexico City. In 1964, he traveled to New York where he has lived ever since. Together with artists Luis Camnitzer and José Guillermo Castillo, he co-founded The New York Graphic Workshop. He has exhibited his work in over 35 countries and in more than 450 group exhibitions including the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, New Museum, Museo Tamayo, Blanton Museum of Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, CentroCentro (Madrid), among others. His work is part of private and public collections at the TATE Modern, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Museo de Bellas Artes in Santiago, Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, Museo de Arte Moderno in Bogotá, Museo del Barrio, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and the Daros Collection.
