BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Pair of busts; XX century.
Plaster and shell applications.
Measurements: 100 x 59 x 30 cm.
These 20th century plaster busts have a classical appearance, with idealized features reminiscent of Greco-Roman sculptures. However, their ornamentation makes them unique and contemporary pieces.
Each bust is richly decorated with an elaborate composition of seashells, conches and corals, forming spectacular headdresses and detailed pectorals. The carefully arranged shells vary in size, shape and hue, from soft mother-of-pearl to sandy and reddish colors. At the top of the heads, the marine elements are arranged in an almost architectural structure, with spirals and spikes that evoke majestic crowns or diadems.
This combination of materials suggests a fusion between the classical world and baroque or surrealist aesthetics, giving the work a dreamlike and almost mystical atmosphere. The busts seem to represent mythological figures, marine deities or guardians of the oceans, highlighting the relationship between man and nature through art.
