Paul Grandhomme was a medalist, engraver and enameller who worked mainly in the Renaissance style of the Limoges School. He became enameled during his years as a librarian. After studying with Auguste Mollard, an enameller with expertise in the chemistry of enameling, and with Jules-Clément Chaplain, he worked with Pierre Puvis de Chavannes and Jules-Élie Delaunay, and was influenced by Raphaël Collin. In 1874 he presented his work at the Salon des Artistes Français. Together with his pupil Alfred Jean Garnier, he won the gold medal at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1889. They were also the last enamelists to collaborate with Gustave Moreau. Much of their work is exhibited in the Musée d'Orsay, two of their enameled medals are on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
