BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
ERNEST HEYLENS (Belgium, 1908 - 1976).
"Archer", 1952.
Patinated bronze and Belgian black marble pedestal.
Signed and dated.
Measurements: 57 x 29 x 11,5 cm; 7,5 x 14,5 x 12,5 cm (base).
The sculpture represents an archer at the moment of drawing the bow. The man is completely naked and the artist has focused all his attention on a detailed description of the anatomy subjected to a moment of great effort. All the muscles are in tension, accompanying the right arm and marking the musculature of the chest and belly. Despite this, the archer's expression is serene, although concentrated, and the regular features and short hair recall Greco-Latin sculpture.
