DESCRIPTION

RICHARD SCHNAUDER (Germany,1886 - 1956)
"Homage to the industry".
Patinated bronze.
Presents stamp of the foundry "Danziger".
Signed and dated.
Measurements: 66 x 39 x 31 cm.
This allegorical couple follows the taste of the end of the century, but with clear debts to classicism, which was characteristic of the author. The bodies present an idealized and graceful canon, enriched with detailed elements. The piece represents an allegory of Industry, a recurring theme in 19th century art, especially during the Industrial Revolution. The work shows a female figure of majestic bearing, who personifies Industry, accompanied by a young worker, symbol of human effort and labor, essential for industrial development.
Georg Richard Schnauder was a German sculptor and draughtsman, son of the sculptor Reinhard Schnauder (1856-1923), who worked in his father's workshop from an early age, thus laying the foundations for his later artistic activity. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden with J. Große and later at the School of Arts and Crafts in Paris. His study trips took him to Paris and Rome. He later returned to Dresden and worked as an independent sculptor in his own studio.
