DESCRIPTION
Pair of goblets; BOYER FRÈRES; Paris (1828-1887).
Marble and gilt bronze mounts.
Signed.
Measurements: 47 x 21 x 20 cm.
Pair of ornamental goblets of historicist style, whose forms are inspired by the Empire style. They consist of an ovoid vessel in garnet marble, with expressive dark veining, and the rest of the pieces are made of gilded bronze, cast in relief and with cold chiseled details. They consist of a typically Empire base, prismatic, sharp-edged and smooth, and on it is placed directly on the foot, composed of a tight laurel wreath, worked with the synthetic and refined style typical of 1800. The bronze ornamentation stands out especially for the quality of the chiseled work, which reproduces with great expressiveness the texture of the flowers that form the garland that falls down the body. An intermediate neck is placed over the ovoid shape of the body.
These types of pieces reached great popularity during the 19th century, becoming an object of luxury and social significance, in such a way that their quality and good taste distinguished the taste of their owner.
