Claudius Marioton's style is characterized by a remarkable classicism in the forms. His figures are based on the solid French neoclassical and academic tradition, as can be seen in this allegory of Recognition.
French sculptor active between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Claudius Marioton mainly made sculptures of classical type, mainly small bronze pieces but also other monumental ones in marble or other stones, as is the case of the allegorical sculpture representing the city of Lyon that still decorates the facade of the City Hall in Paris. He also made portraits, such as the bust of Vice-Admiral Georges Charles Cloue. Marioton was the brother of the sculptor and medalist Eugène Marioton, and became known through the Paris Salon, being especially celebrated his "Diogenes", which earned him a third class medal in the 1883 edition. Today he is represented at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen.
