"Lady in robes".
Patinated bronze.
Signed on the right side of the base. Marble pedestal.
Measurements: 33 x 10 x 8 cm.
The sculptor Jaume Durán was formed as a disciple of his uncle, the sculptor Miquel Castellanos, and also of Esteve Monegal. He also studied at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, and obtained a scholarship to study in Florence, where he was a student of Rivalta. He also traveled to Paris and Brussels, and later taught at the schools of Bells Oficis and Labor, both in Barcelona. Author of works of a serene and intimate realism, Durán became known in the early twentieth century, taking part in major exhibitions of the time not only in Barcelona, but also in Madrid, Paris and Rome. Years later, in 1941, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Artistic Circle of Barcelona. In addition to small format works, he made some public monuments, such as the "Montseny" of the Plaza de Cataluña in Barcelona or the "Fama" of the Montjuic Park in the same city.
