BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Spanish school, ca. 1800.
"Cherubs".
Carved wood, polychrome and gilded.
Vitreous paste eyes.
Presents wear, inactive xylophages and lack of polychrome.
Measurements: 20,5 x 40 x 12 cm.
Ornamental carving in high relief representing two cherubs of which we see only the infantile head, flanked by the wings, as is common in this type of representations. In the rear area there is no ornamentation, but the wood remains exposed, which confirms that it would have originally belonged to a larger sculptural ensemble, probably an altarpiece. The two faces are directly inspired by the models of the classical "putto", a child with regular features, broad forehead, small nose, large cheeks and wavy hair.
