BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JOSEF LORENZL (Austria, 1893 - 1950).
"Ballerina".
Cold enameled bronze.
Onyx base with faults.
Signed on the base.
Measurements: 24 x 5 x 5 cm.

Josef Lorenzl offers us a typical Art Deco sculpture in the form of a beautiful woman of stylized but naturalistic anatomy, executing a dynamic dance step. The young woman wears an exotic costume that leaves her belly uncovered. This is completed with a collar with large lapels and an elegantly draped skirt that covers the back of her legs. Her short hairstyle, with a loop at the bottom, is characteristic of Art Deco.

Joseph Lorenzl developed his activity mainly between 1910 and 1940, fully immersed in the Art Deco style, of which he was one of the most famous and prolific representatives. Based in Vienna, he stood out for immortalizing ethereal and elegant dancers, nude or dressed in futuristic or exotic costumes, which he sometimes cold polychromed. He worked for firms such as Keramos or Goldscheider. He participated in the Salon des Artistes Français in 1928. He is represented in the Museo Casa Lis, as well as in international museums dedicated to Art Deco, and various private collections.
