BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

GEORGES OMERTH (Paris, active 1895 - 1925).
"Hussar on horseback".
Figure in patinated bronze.
Signed on the right side.
Measurements: 54,5 x 33,5 x 17 cm.

Equestrian statue in patinated bronze representing a hussar, soldier of the light cavalry originally from Hungary.

French sculptor active between the end of the XIX century and the first decades of the XX, Georges Omerth was formed as disciple of Albert Carrier Belleuse, and began his career realizing figures of Italian style representing soldiers of the First World War, with their trumpets and flags, on oval bronze bases. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he presented Art Nouveau sculptures and, later, Art Deco sculptures. A lover of theater and circus, he made works of Colombinas, clowns and Harlequins, as well as children and dancers, both in bronze and in bronze and ivory, often edited by Edmond Etling. Today, works by Georges Omerth are kept in the Museum of Art Nouveau and Art Deco Casa Lis in Salamanca and the Museum of Fine Arts in Reims, as well as in various private collections.
