The school of Granada rises as an important artistic focus both in painting (from the seventeenth century with the figure of Alonso Cano) and sculpture, defining itself through the sixteenth century to fully consolidate in the seventeenth century, due to the historical context in which the Andalusian city is located. Later in time and already defined the school of Granada will appear the figure of Pablo de Rojas, known for being the creator of the Andalusian processional crucifixions. Likewise, other names such as Alonso de Mena, notable sculptor of Immaculate, or Alonso Cano, and Pablo de Rojas will emerge. He was the son of a painter from Sardinia, although he settled in Alcala la Real, and was the son of a painter from Sardinia. In 1579 he moved to the city of Granada, at that time in artistic boom, receiving the teaching of Rodrigo Moreno and becoming the teacher of Juan Martínez Montañés. Among his outstanding works is his intervention in the altarpiece of the Monastery of San Jerónimo in Granada, where crucifixes predominate. His work is characterized by the evolution of his style to a briskness and dynamism of a completely baroque character, as can be seen in the carving that is presented: tremendously pathetic, with a marked dynamism and face of great expressiveness, without falling, however, into vulgarity. It presents a figure that is transmitted through calm attitudes and sober gesticulation.
