BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Spanish school of the eighteenth century.
Pair of Rococo angels.
Carved and polychrome wood.
They present some faults and old xylophages not active in one of the sculptures.
Measurements: 37 x 24 x 17 cm. each one.
Pair of polychrome wood carvings representing two angels mancebos. One of them takes a finger to the mouth, in a childish but also meditative gesture, expressing rapture. Their tender bodies and plump faces adopt graceful postures that almost resemble dance steps, following stylistic precepts typical of the Rococo period. Despite the similarity in the modeling of the anatomy and countenances, each angel has been worked individually. They differ slightly in their gestures. The pieces are worked in detail, in rounded bulk. The wings have been finely chiseled. It is likely that originally the pair was part of a larger sculptural ensemble.
