Odoardo Luis Razzauti was an Italian sculptor who specialised in bronze. In collaboration with Manuel Fuxà, he made a famous replica of the New York Statue of Liberty in 1895. This was commissioned by the Arús library in Barcelona, which specialised in Freemasonry, and the statue bore Masonic attributes. In the present piece, St. Francis of Assisi is depicted in a meditative pose, holding the Gospels in his hands, which protrude from the long sleeves of his tunic. The tunic covers his entire body, revealing his bare feet and an extremely expressive bearded face, furrowed with wrinkles. The eyes look upwards, establishing a silent dialogue with God.
