BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

SVANTE SKOGH (Sweden) for Laauser.
Coffee table "Boomerang", ca. 1950's.
Teak wood.
With printed numbering.
Measurements: 178 x 80 x 49.5 cm.

Coffee table designed by Svante Skogh, a piece of teak wood that stands out for its quality and originality for its free form. It consists of a boomerang-shaped top seated on tapered legs joined by curved crossbeams. It is an iconic mid-century Scandinavian design. The attention to detail also stands out.

Swedish designer Svante Skogh is best known for his mid-century designs produced by Seffle (sometimes written as Säffle), although he worked with several furniture makers throughout his career, which spanned the 1950s and 1960s. Although little information is available about Skogh's personal life or career development, many of his designs have survived and are highly sought after in today's vintage market. Like many of his Scandinavian contemporaries, Skogh designed furniture-ranging from coffee and dining tables to seating and storage solutions-in which he used richly grained wood mixed with soft, supple fabrics such as leather. His best-known design is the Bodö series (1957) of armchairs and sofas for Seffle, with angular lines complemented by exposed leather straps. Other notable designs include the elegant Model 775 curved-back armchair (1954) for OPE, designed early in Skogh's career; the Cortina series (1960s) for Seffle, which includes a sideboard, dining table and chairs; and a chaise lounge produced by Engen.
