Desk of generous dimensions designed by Gianfranco Frattini in 1956 for Bernini, Italy. Made entirely of rosewood, the rectangular top has beautiful veining that blends in with the design. The waistline houses two drawers flanking two spaces as shelves, in addition to four other spaces at the back. The legs open on a triangular foot and are joined with a crossbar. The set is functional and essentialist aesthetics.
Gianfranco Frattini belongs to the generation of Italian designers of the 1950s and 1960s. He studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, and began his career as an industrial designer when he realized that he needed appropriate furniture and lighting for the interiors of his architectural projects. In 1956 he was one of the founders of ADI, Associazione per il Disegno Industriale. Throughout his long career, Frattini collaborated with Gio Ponti, worked for Cassina and Acerbis, and designed lamps for Artemide, as well as being a member of the Milan Triennale and designing for Knoll.
