BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
JAUME TRESSERRA CLAPÉS (Barcelona, 1943).
Law firm "Haiku". 2002.
Light walnut and stainless steel hardware.
Measurements: 92 x 296 cm.
With a name that suggests the use of few words to condense deep meanings in them, the Haiku model by Tresserres also economizes on language by subordinating it to a geometric rigor inspired by the refinement of Japanese aesthetics. It consists of eight modules that alternate drawer units and shelves. The top is delimited by steel strands that dialogue with the metal profile of the drawers and the cylindrical handles of the sliding panels. The design is enhanced by the quality of the light walnut wood, which has beautiful horizontal grain. It is a piece of furniture with great personality.
Exclusive designer of the Tresserra Collection, Jaume Tresserra studied law at the University of Barcelona, although he abandoned his studies to become an interior designer, designing exclusive furniture for his clients. After several years as an interior designer, Tresserra decided to create his own company, and presented his first furniture collection at the International Furniture Fair in Valencia in 1987, where he won the award for best modern furniture design. During the following years he continued to present his creations annually at the International Furniture Fairs in Milan and Cologne, achieving a good reception from both the public and the critics. These were also years in which he tackled large-scale interior design projects, such as the El Dorado Petit restaurant in New York, the headquarters of the Cuatrecasas law firm and others. In the early nineties his designs received awards such as the ID International Design Magazine Award, for the Carlton-House piece "Butterfly"; the International Design Review Award'90 in New York, or the ID Golden Award for the design "Dune". For the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, he designed the interior design of the twenty-eight luxury apartments located on the top floors of the building for the Arts Building (today Hotel Arts), a work that earned him great international recognition. Two years later, in 1994, he created the Tresserra Collection brand, which was presented in a new showroom. The recognition of the handcrafted quality of his pieces, his presence in the most important fairs and the relevance of his latest projects led, in 2000, to the opening of his own stores in cities such as Paris, Madrid, London, Moscow, Berlin, Boston, Chicago and St. Petersburg. During his career Jaime Tresserra has received the following awards: Best Modern Furniture Design, at the Valencia International Furniture Fair; the Design Award from Nuevo Estilo magazine; the ID International Design Magazine, for the piece Cartlon-House Butterly; the International Design Review Award'90, in New York; the ID Golden Award, for the attaché Dune and the Master Artisan Award, by the Catalan Craftsmanship Center. Among the museums that have requested the presence of his pieces are the Museum of Decorative Arts in Barcelona (Samuro and Carpett), the Museum für Kunst und Gewebe in Hamburg (Samuro), the Stedelik Museum in Amsterdam (Carpett), The Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art in Dallas (several pieces of special design) and the "Die Neue Sammlung-Staaliches Museum für angewandte Kunst in Munich (Samuro and Butterfly).
