Attributed to FONTANA ARTE.
Standing coat rack. Italy, ca. 1950's.
In bronze and glass.
Measurements: 186 x 57 x 57 cm.
Standing coat rack, in bronze, with four sturdy star-shaped open feet. The dark bronze of the shaft contrasts with the gilded hangers finished in glass discs. Because of its minimalist aesthetic and coincidence with other products of the firm, it is attributed to Fontana Arte.
FontanaArte's history dates back to 1881, when Luigi Fontana established Luigi Fontana & Compagni in Milan, dedicated to the manufacture of flat glass for construction. In 1930, architect and designer Gio Ponti joined the company as artistic director, initiating a collaboration that would lead to the creation of FontanaArte in 1932. That same year, Ponti invited master glassmaker Pietro Chiesa to join the project, consolidating the vision of producing artistic objects in glass. In 1954, French designer Max Ingrand took over the artistic direction of FontanaArte, expanding industrial production and consolidating the company's reputation in the field of lighting design. Under his leadership, pieces were created that today form part of renowned museum collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum of Applied Arts in Cologne.
