The storage unit of the "Profilsystem" series was designed by Elmar Flötotto for Flötotto in Germany in the 1980s. The construction principle was that the modules could be easily combined with each other. Thanks to the stacking corners and connecting plates, they are stable and can be separated again at any time and regrouped as desired. It is a high-quality part, which is still manufactured today, from natural beech profiles, sanded round on all sides, which is screwed to a full-frame construction with its specially developed corner joints. The surface color, an olive green, is unique and very characteristic of the 1980s.
Elmar Flötotto is a leading German designer, known for his contribution to functional and aesthetic furniture design. He is part of the fourth generation of the Flötotto family, whose eponymous company was founded in 1906 by Heinrich Flötotto in Gütersloh (Avenwedde), Germany. After World War II, in 1946, Heinrich's sons, Fritz and Franz Flötotto, continued the family business, expanding production to include school and household furniture. In 1951, the company expanded its operations with a particleboard plant in Arnsberg in the Sauerland region. Elmar Flötotto has been recognized for designing iconic pieces such as the "Lumibär" table lamp and various furniture systems that combine functionality and innovative design. The Flötotto company has maintained its reputation for manufacturing high-quality furniture, including school chairs, shelving systems and other versatile furniture.
