Wall lamp designed by Kazuo Motozawa for Staff Leuchten, in the 1970s. Motozawa is inspired on this occasion in the space age. Specifically on the planet Saturn. The shade is composed of stacked chrome-plated metal rings. It has a chrome-plated round cap on top, a chrome-plated tube and other metal components. Dimensions:
Kazuo Motozawa's Saturn pendant lamp is available in several versions. There is also a table lamp variant in white. A similar pendant lamp, called "Aureola," is thicker and shorter. The Aureola table lamps were briefly reissued around 2010, priced at around €270/$270. Models 5633 and 5639 won an iF Design Award in 1971, with this model being 5631. These lamps were manufactured by the Japanese company Yamagiwa and were sold in Europe through Staff & Schwarz (Germany).
Kazuo Motozawa, born in 1945 in Saitama, Japan, graduated in 1968 from Musashino Junior College. After his studies, he designed lamps for Yamagiwa and was director of LD Yamagiwa Laboratory from 1977 to 1985. In 1987 he founded HALO Design Laboratory, Inc. Motozawa has exhibited his work on numerous occasions and has received several design awards.
Yamagiwa, founded in 1923 by Hirofumi Yamagiwa, is a leading Japanese lighting manufacturer. They also distribute luminaires from international brands such as FLOS, Louis Poulsen, Artemide, among others. Yamagiwa is part of Maruwa Co., Ltd.
Staff Leuchten, founded in 1945 by Alfred Staff and Otto Schwarz in Lemgo, Germany, started as a wood and metal products store. It soon grew into a renowned lighting company, winning more than 200 awards. Staff collaborated with companies such as Stilnovo, Raak and Lyfa during the 1960s and 1970s. In 1994, Zumtobel acquired the company.
