BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JOSEP LLUSCÁ (Barcelona, 1948).
Set of four chairs model Andrea, design 1987.
Chromed steel, aluminum and wood.
They present a small damage in one of the seats.
Measurements: 80 x 58,5 x 54 cm.

The Andrea chair was born more than thirty years ago from a double challenge: that of a company that was firmly committed to design and innovation (since then Andreu World has been one of the most representative brands in the production of Spanish designer furniture), and that of a designer who sought an original and creative response to an unresolved problem in chair design. Taking over from Charles Eames in the exploration of a three-legged chair, Josep Lluscà successfully tested a solution to the problems of stability of a seat with these characteristics.

As Oriol Pibernat once said, "there are few objects that are celebrated on their day of birth and deserve to be celebrated on their successive anniversaries". The Andrea chair enjoys this unusual privilege.
Josep LLuscá was born in Barcelona in 1948. He studied Industrial Design at the Eina school in Barcelona. He later furthered his training at L'École des Arts et Métiers in Montreal. He created his own studio in 1972, specializing in lighting and furniture. Throughout his professional career he has collaborated with important national and international companies: Antonio Puig Perfumes, Ena, Fagor or General Electric, among many others. Of his best-known designs, perhaps the Andrea chair stands out, an elegant three-legged aluminum chair. In addition to his activities as a designer, he has been a professor at the Eina design school, vice-president of the ADI-FAD (Industrial Design Association of the Promotion of Decorative Arts) and a member of the Design Council of the Generalitat de Catalunya. He has received important prizes and awards for his elegant and avant-garde designs.
