Bamboo armchairs like the ones presented and Chinese furniture in general became very fashionable in the Western world after the completion of the Royal Pavilion at Brighton, a former royal residence located in Brighton (England) built in the 19th century as a seaside retreat for George IV of England, then still Prince Regent. Armchairs in the same style as those now being bid for were part of the exotic furnishings of such a complex residence and are still found today in its grand foyers.
