BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
DBM chest of drawers in Space Age style. Italy, 1970s.
Lacquered wood and fibreglass.
With manufacturer's plaque.
Measurements: 192 x 180 x 63 cm; 102 cm (mirror diameter).
Spectacular dressing table designed by the Italian house DBM following the aesthetic canons of the Space Age, to which is added a great imprint of Art Deco, from which it takes inspiration in the geometric forms, especially the curves, which are the forms that are the protagonists of this work. It is a piece of large dimensions made from lacquered wood in an off-white colour, formed by a horizontal base devised for storage with two drawers on each side and with a black marble-effect fibreglass top with greyish veins and a large circular mirror in the top part. The silhouette of the base is illuminated with a futuristic effect, even underneath, towards the base of the unit.
The white colour is closely linked to Op Art, a trend that is also closely related to Space Age. Space Age is the name given to the period in which the space race was launched, starting in 1957 with the launch of Sputnik. This fever to conquer space also reached design, and during the sixties and seventies a model of decoration was developed based on an idyllic vision of the future, and on everything to do with spaceships, new technologies and innovative materials.
