Manuel Calvo is known for his artistic work being a reference of geometric abstraction in Spain. Although at first he began to study veterinary medicine, during his career he decided to abandon his studies to begin his artistic training. In 1958 he made his first solo exhibition at the Alfil Gallery (Madrid). His work is currently in important art collections, among which the following stand out; the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía2 in Madrid, the Contemporary Art Museums of the University of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Villafamés, the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts of Santander, the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, the Jovellanos Museum of Gijón, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Rinconada Museums of Caracas, the Museum of Prints of Mexico City, the Patio Herreriano Museum of Valladolid, the Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art of Madrid and the National Library of Madrid.
