Painter and watercolorist, Martínez Lozano was formed in Barcelona, in the schools of Clot and La Lonja. He made his individual debut in Figueras, in Can Fortunet, in 1946. In 1951 he obtained a scholarship from the Diputación de Gerona to complete his studies in Venice, where he enriched his palette. That same year he presented a selection of his Venetian works in Barcelona, at the Sala Gaspar. Also in 1951 he makes his debut in Madrid, and then establishes workshops in Montblanc, Tarragona and Llançà. In the latter town he founded the School of Arts and Crafts. In 1963 he was awarded the City of Tarrassa Prize at the Biennial of Painting. Since 1965 he will hold exhibitions of his work in France, Italy, England and Belgium. In 1975 he received the National Watercolor Prize, and in 1989 he promoted the creation of the Museum of Watercolor-Foundation J. Martinez Lozano de Llançà, which currently preserves most of his work. Specializing in landscape and marine painting, he was president of the Agrupación de Acuarelistas de Barcelona between 1994 and 1998.
