BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

DAI-BIH-IN (P'ingtun, Taiwan, 1946).
Untitled.
Watercolor on paper.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 53 x 66,7 cm.

Dai-Bih-In was initially trained at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Taiwan, graduating in 1971. In 1975 he traveled to Europe and in 1977 he won the "Premio Miró", settling that same year in Llers (Alt Empordà, Catalonia), where he maintained his studio until 2005. In 1978 he completed his training studying mural painting and mosaic at the Centro Internacional Studi Insegnamento Mosaico, in Ravenna, Italy. He has had numerous solo exhibitions since 1975, when he began his career at the Taiwan Provincial Museum. Later he exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona, the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, in Oviedo, the Apollo Art Gallery in Taipei, and other centers of international prestige. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, for example in Tokyo, in 2007 and international art fairs, such as the ARCO fair in Madrid, 1983-85 and 1987, the Art Basel, in 1984, the Art Taipei in 1995-99 or the Art Fair of Cologne, in 2015. He usually works on handmade paper, made by himself with very different materials that give him textures and finishes that are part of the creative process and the aesthetic result. This interest in paper, in the support as part of the work, undoubtedly comes from the oriental artistic tradition. Despite this anchorage in the millenary oriental tradition, his painting is inscribed in the informalist currents of the last quarter of the 20th century, and presents important links with Antoni Tàpies, of whom he was a friend. Thus, the stain, the gestural stroke, the "brushstroke", the dripping or scratching, are essential elements of his painting, which also usually includes symbols, letters or traces.
