Letter from King Ferdinand VII, March 14, 1812.
Appointment to a military man as commander of the infantry regiment of Mataró.
Measurements: 30 x 21 cm; 40 x 31 cm (frame).
Handwritten letter by the King of Spain Ferdinand VII (San Lorenzo de El Escorial, 1784-Madrid, 1833), in which he appoints a military man as commander of the infantry regiment of Mataró.
Fernando VII, popularly known as "The Desired One", was king of Spain in 1808 and then again from 1813 until his death in 1833. His reign was overshadowed by the French invasion that placed Joseph Bonaparte, Napoleon's brother, on the Spanish throne between May 1808 and December 1813. During that time, first the Junta Suprema Central and then the Consejo de Regencia ruled on his behalf in the area controlled by the Spanish between 1808 and 1814.
