Girona trained with his uncle, the painter Rafael Benet. In 1946 he exhibited for the first time, with the group "Els Vuit", in Barcelona. In 1950 he obtained a scholarship from the French government and settled in Paris for four years, also making study trips to London, Holland and Belgium. During these years he began an intense exhibition activity that took his work to cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Paris and Buenos Aires, among others. She also participated in the Salones de Octubre and de Mayo in Barcelona, and in 1953 she participated in the II Bienal Hispanoamericana de La Habana. Married to the painter Albert Ràfols Casamada, since 1970 she taught drawing at the Eina School in Barcelona. In 1997 she was awarded the City of Barcelona Plastic Arts Prize. Her language starts from a colorist fauvism of cubist construction, to evolve in a line of simple images and soft forms. In the seventies she adopted the collage technique, which she will use in a series of works composed of naïf ornamental elements, evocative of atmospheres and past times. María Girona is represented in various private collections, as well as in the Museum of Modern Art of Santo Domingo. This drawing is part of her production of lyrical and simple still lifes, with stylized lines.
