DESCRIPTION
LALIQUE vase; France.
Model "Beautreillis", 1927.
Opalescent glass.
Bibliography: catalog raisonné by Félix Marcilhac, n. 989, pg 436.
Measurements: 14.5 cm (height) x 18.5 cm (diameter).
Vase of period and Art Deco style, in opalescent, translucent and colorless glass. It has the shape of a large goblet and is carved on its thick foot with cabochons alternating with grooves that compartmentalize the cells.
The firm Lalique was founded by René Jules Lalique (1860 - 1945), one of the most prominent glassmakers of the time, and one of the first to sculpt glass for large monumental works, such as the fountains of the Champs Elysees. Lalique pieces are preserved in prominent museums such as the Corning Museum of Glass and the Metropolitan in New York, the Louvre or the Orsay in Paris, among many others. This piece, molded, has a decoration patented by Lalique himself, the satin that bears his name.
