Vase; CLETO MUNARI & LORENZO ZANOVELLO, Italy,2010.
Polychrome ceramic. Unique piece.
Presents inscription on the base.
Provenance: Cleto Munari Collection.
Measurements: 38 x 35 x 23 cm.
Polychrome ceramic vase created by the silversmith Cleto Murani and the ceramist Lorenzo Zanovello, who have collaborated in several artistic projects. The vase presents a silhouette that resembles that of a classical amphora, with a globular body tapering towards a short, flaring neck. However, this traditional form is subverted by the presence of two sculptural elements projecting from the sides of the body: two hands in an attitude of holding or presenting the vase.
A silversmith born in the Italian part of Italy near the Slovenian border, Cleto Munari soon moved to Verona, where he trained as a silversmith. In 1973, Munari meets the architect Carlo Scarpa, a circumstance that focuses the former's activity towards industrial design, working for important stores around the world. In his search for inspiration, ideas and original projects, Cleto Munari is open to a continuous analysis and experimentation of forms and materials. His objects, especially those worked with gold and silver, are represented in important collections and museums around the world, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
