DESCRIPTION
Jewelry box; France, late nineteenth century.
Enameled porcelain in the manner of Sèvres and gilt bronze mounts.
Interior lined in later period.
Measurements. 27 x 32 x 18 cm.
French rococo style jewelry box of the 19th century, probably inspired by the ornamental design of the time of Louis XV. It presents a structure decorated with gilded gilt bronze details, with intricate patterns of leaves, flowers and scrolls, typical characteristics of rococo. On the panels of the box, there are hand-painted porcelain inserts, depicting romantic pastoral scenes, such as a woman in a country landscape, along with delicate floral motifs.
The predominant color of the porcelain is cobalt blue, which contrasts elegantly with the surrounding gold. On the top of the box, there is a sculptural ornamentation that includes figures of cherubs or putti holding a shield, which reinforces the romantic and decorative air of the object.
The piece reflects a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail, being a clear example of the artistic sophistication and aesthetic values of the European aristocracy of the time. This jewelry box was not only functional, but also a luxury object designed to showcase the wealth and refined taste of its owner.
This type of pieces reached great popularity during the 19th century, becoming an object of luxury and social significance, such that its quality and good taste distinguished the taste of its owner.
