Scene in enameled plate based on the celebrated painting of the French artist Pierre Mignard, a French Baroque painter known for his portraits and religious scenes. It depicts the Virgin holding the Infant Jesus, who is playing with a bunch of grapes. The grapes symbolize the Eucharist and Christ's sacrifice, prefiguring his Passion. The Virgin has a serene and delicate face, influenced by the aesthetics of the Italian Renaissance. Mignard was a prominent portrait painter at the court of Louis XIV and created several versions of this Marian subject. His style is characterized by a great softness in the faces and an elegant idealism.
