Crockery; Pickman & Cia, Seville, 1880-1899.

Measurements: 21 x 32 x 32 x 16 cm; 4 x 43 x 23 cm (tray): 2.5 x 21.5 x 12 cm (small tray).
Crockery made up of a large soup tureen, a large legumbrera, a small legumbrera, two centerpieces or fruit bowls, two large trays, two small trays, four hors d'oeuvre dishes, thirty-two dinner plates, eleven soup plates and twenty-three dessert plates.
La Cartuja de Sevilla was founded in 1841 by the Marquis Charles de Pickman, who arrived in the city with the idea of establishing a new factory of fine chinaware of the highest quality, to compete with the dominance of English brands. From the founding of the factory in 1841, Charles Pickman established novel manufacturing methods such as the importation of raw materials, the use of molds, the use of specialized machinery such as mechanical arms and presses, the work of English specialists and all of the founder's ceramics experience that led to the factory's initial success. There is practically no piece identical to another at La Cartuja de Sevilla. The complex production process and the quality craftsmanship characteristic of this century-old factory result in unique and unrepeatable pieces.
