BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Centerpiece CAPODIMONTE. Naples, late nineteenth century-early twentieth century.
Hand glazed ceramic.
With signature on the back.
It has slight flaws and old restorations.
Measurements: 24 x 23 x 17 cm.

Sculptural group of glazed ceramic manufactured by Capodimonte. A lively group of amorcillos or putti gather bouquets to animate the embers that already begin to burn.

Founded in 1743 under the reign of Charles VII of Naples, the future Charles III of Spain, the Royal Porcelain Factory of Capodimonte was born with the aim of emulating the great factory of Meissen, whose patron had been Augustus the Strong, grandfather of Queen Maria Amalia of Saxony. It was, after the Saxon factory, one of the first in Europe to use real porcelain, with kaolin, fired at a temperature varying between 700 and 800º, with a second, higher firing, between 1,400 and 1,500º. His production was very extensive, although he was especially noted for his sculptures, both round and in relief, decorating all types of objects.
