Édouard Cazaux (1889-1974), Basque artist. He came from a family of ceramists and literally grew up in his parents' workshop. In 1912 he obtained a scholarship from the School of Fine Arts of Sèvres. He perfected his techniques and worked in several workshops, including that of Edmond Lachenal, where he learned to make gilded ceramics. He also works as a sculptor and creates the Biarritz war memorial in 1922. From 1921 he also exhibited in the various Paris Salons. In 1925 he participates in the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes. There he collaborates with the group of artists "La Stele et l'Evolution" for Arthur Goldscheider's pavilion. From 1928 he also works with David Guéron of the Christallerie Degué. In 1937 he wins with his brothers the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris with his fountain. During the Second World War he produces special ceramics, the "Grés Norton" which was exhibited at the Galerie Rouard after the war. Due to the shortage of raw materials, he was unable to use his own kilns and began experimenting with industrial gravel kilns (Norton kilns). The temperatures were so high that he enveloped his ceramics in a special mass that gave a milky glaze structure to his ceramics.
