BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Lalique. France, 1970s.
"Coq nain", Car mascot.
Pressed colorless glass.
Signed on the base.
Measurements: 21 x 13,5 x 7 cm.
Figure of a rooster whose design was created by René Jules Lalique in 1928. It is a dwarf rooster that was part of the collection "mascots" that decorated the hoods of luxury cars of the time mounted on the radiator cap; in addition, they were illuminated at night. Their mascots were in great demand by tycoons around the world for their luxury cars and limousines. The figure, although designed by René Lalique, was later manufactured after his death in the 1950s and 1960s.
The firm Lalique was founded by René Jules Lalique (1860 - 1945), one of the most prominent glassmakers of the time, and one of the first to sculpt glass for large monumental works, such as the fountains of the Champs Elysees. Lalique pieces are preserved in prominent museums such as the Corning Museum of Glass and the Metropolitan in New York, the Louvre or the Orsay in Paris, among many others. This piece, molded, has a decoration patented by Lalique himself, the satin that bears his name.
