BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Pair of dolls - egg cup; Germany, mid-twentieth century.
Polychrome biscuit porcelain.
Sister-in-law and dated.
Measurements: 28 x 16 x 16 cm.
Biscuit porcelain baby piano representing the figure of a girl sitting on her ankles. This type of dolls known as bebe piano or heubach baby, became popular in Germany largely due to the presence of Heubach, a company in Köppelsdorf, Thuringia, Germany, which manufactured biscuit dolls from 1885 to 1893. The sculptures are called baby pianos because they were conceived as ornaments for the upper part of the musical instrument.
