BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Crater; France, first third of the nineteenth century.
Painted and gilded porcelain.
It shows wear.
Measurements: 32 x 24 cm.
The craters were key utensils in the culture of the banquet, as they were used to mix the wine with water before drinking it, since the Greeks rarely drank pure wine. In this case the piece, although inspired by the aforementioned type of Greek vessel, is detached from its original function. The vessel sits on a square base with a round foot shaft, molded profile and gilded finish. The body has low handles with masks in the lower ends of the same, in golden color like the lip of the piece. In the central area there is a painted design with a bouquet of flowers as protagonist.

COMMENTS

It shows wear and tear.
