Glazed ceramic.
Measurements: 16.5 x 67 cm.
Small basin made of ceramic and decorated with high-temperature enamels on a white tin engobe, which only covers the inside of the piece. The colours used are black for the outline of the motifs, blue, green and yellow. The seat is occupied by a motif derived from Talavera models, with a very popular synthesised animal set in a landscape. The eaves are decorated with a geometric border based on zigzag lines. The decoration is completed with bands of concentric lines in blue and green, a motif typical of popular Spanish ceramics throughout the 19th century.
Triana was a popular centre of pottery production from Roman times. Later the Arabs included the technique and aesthetics of pottery production in the area. At the end of the 15th century, Niculoso Francisco Pisano moved to the area and introduced the Italian style and a new technique in which the tile is worked like an oil painting.
