BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Pair of Bohemian vases, 19th century.
Bent and cut glass.
Slightly chipped at the mouth.
Measurements: 33 cm (height); 10.5 cm (largest diameter).
Pair of vases made in Bohemian crystal. Standing on a circular base, they have a globular belly and a trumpet-shaped mouth. They are burgundy in colour and have colourless figurative surfaces depicting vine leaves, grapes and tree motifs.
Bohemian glass, known primarily as Bohemian crystal, is a glass produced in the regions of Bohemia and Silesia, now parts of the Czech Republic. It has a centuries-long history of being internationally recognised for its high quality, craftsmanship, beauty and often innovative designs. Hand-cut, engraved, blown and painted decorative glassware ranges from champagne flutes to huge candlesticks, ornaments, figurines and other glassware. The hegemony of Bohemian crystal began in the late 16th century. It became popular with both the nobility and European royalty of the time and today, allowing its reputation to reach all corners of the world.
