Paperweight "Aquarius", 1960s.
Murano glass with gold and silver inclusions.
It has some chipping on the base.
Measurements: 15 x 21 x 10 cm.
The "Aquarium" paperweights were designed by Riccardo Licata. Made in the 1950s and 1960s, they are highly artistic pieces conceived as fish tanks containing fish swimming among seaweed and other elements of the seabed.
Riccardo Licata was one of the most talented Italian artists of the 20th century. In addition to these glass pieces, he created paintings, sculptures, engravings and mosaics. His work is exhibited in museums around the world.
