Petrus 1994 is a red wine from the Pomerol wine region, Bordeaux, made from a selection of merlot and cabernet franc. It is considered by great critics and winemakers as the best wine in the world. Château Petrus is today one of the most appreciated, expensive and sought after wines in the world, along with the first crus from the left bank of the Gironde.
The 11.4 hectares of Petrus vineyards are located on a plateau in the eastern part of Pomerol, and produce 95% merlot and 5% cabernet franc. The estate was the first in Bordeaux to green harvest to reduce yields and increase the quality of the remaining grapes, in some years even eliminating 50% of the crop. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand over a period of two to three days and fermented in cement vats at controlled temperatures. The young wine is aged in new French oak barrels for twenty months. A severe selection is carried out prior to blending in vats, and some lots are rejected for the Grand Vin.
